My Purpose

My purpose is to have a positive impact on the working lives and emotional wellbeing of women.

I dream of a world where organisations, whether private or public, are designed so they work well for living, emotional, amazingly creative and productive humans, so they can flourish, grow and be at their productive best!

I cannot tell you a compelling story, recall a massive AHA or even a light bulb moment, as my purpose emerged over time.  For many years I had created an image at the back of my mind of a role that bought all the strands of my experience together – HR, Executive Search and Teaching.  However hard I looked, there didn’t seem to be a Tina shaped role out there for me.

I could not have predicted the circumstance that would lead to my “it’s now or never moment”.  After my Dad died in July 2017 my Mum came to live with me and within 6 months was diagnosed with a terminal lung disease.  I’d had low times in my life, but I had always used work as a coping mechanism.   Just keep ploughing on through – does that sound familiar?

But this time I had really hit a brick wall.  I realised that things were different, I needed help, and I eventually started seeing a counsellor.  Without this help I am not sure I would have been able to support my dear Mum in her final days.

After my Mum passed away, I was determined to create the Tina shaped role that I could not find. This meant starting my own business. It wasn’t guaranteed to be the most secure financially and was definitely not the safe option, but it was the option that gave me the most freedom to express myself.

The other part of the story is that my Mum lived with Bipolar throughout most of her life.  I saw the stark difference between the brave face she put on the outside, the energy that this took and the reality behind the scenes.

Looking back, I can see that this environment enabled me to develop an exceptional emotional radar, my “superpower”, which I now use to good effect in my work.

I create an empathic, trusting space where you feel safe and comfortable to discuss the surface level “what is going on?” and then the “what’s really going on?”.  This enables us to explore insights, you may be only half aware of, and spot the abilities and strengths that you are not owning or acknowledging.   Those “aha” moments are priceless!

The link between Career Development and Emotional Wellbeing led me to my current studies, an MSc in Integrative Counselling and Coaching at the University of East London. This course is unique and the only postgraduate course in the UK that offers integration of counselling and coaching practices.

I am currently counselling at a local charity working with women and men who need support and I will continue to do so in the future.

Your emotional wellbeing is at the heart of what I do.

I am also committed to extending my purpose beyond my clients to make a difference to women who do not have the same privileges that enabled me to set up my own business.

I want to make a positive impact on the working lives and emotional wellbeing of women, not just in the UK, but also in other countries around the world.

So much so, I was inspired by Melinda Gate’s book, “The Moment of Lift”.  I then discovered B1G1 which enabled me to take positive action. Not just to think about it!

In 2007, B1G1 started with a simple idea: “What if every business could make a difference in their own way, just by doing what they normally do?”

With more than a decade of work, this simple idea has now become a global movement.

As a member of B1G1 I support a number of initiatives, see below
